Finding Refuge in the United States

Every year, the United States takes in about 70,000- 80,000 individuals who are in need of a safe place to live. This is part of a global effort to end persecution based on factors like race, religion and political beliefs. According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service the U.S. offers refugee protection "based on an inherent belief in human rights and in ending or preventing the persecution of individuals."
