New Changes in the Vaccination Requirements for Adjustment of Status Applicants

Additional Vaccinations

The following vaccinations, when age-appropriate, are now required—in addition to the ones previously required—for applicants seeking to adjust status to legal permanent resident:

  • Rotavirus
  • Hepatitis A
  • Meningococcal
  • Human papillomavirus
  • Zoster

Medical exams taking place on or after August 1, 2008 must include new vaccinations. The new edition of Form I-693 Report of Medical Examiners must be filed for any medical examinations completed on or after this date.

Tuberculosis

All applicants two years of age or older are required to have a tuberculin skin test (TST). Children younger than age two are required to have a TST if there is evidence of contact with a person known to have TB or if there are others reason to suspect TB.

A chest x-ray is still required for applicants if their TST reaction is more than 5mm, but will now also be required if their TST reaction is less than 5mm and the they have signs or symptoms of TB. Additionally, now sputum cultures and drug susceptibility testing for positive cultures are required for applicants with chest x-ray findings suggestive of active TB disease.

And finally, Applicants with Class A tuberculosis must complete a full course of TB treatment before receiving medical clearance by USCIS for adjustment of status.

Medical exams taking place on or after June 1, 2008 must comply with the new requirements. The new edition of Form I-693 Report of Medical Examiners must be filed for any medical examinations completed on or after this date.
